Many councils recommend installing double glazing and other acoustic insulation for homes affected by traffic, airport or transport noise. Often governments fund ventilation solutions in conjunction with installation of double glazing.
BUT – the acoustic performance of double glazing is only relevant when the window is closed. So, to install double glazing, and not supplement with mechanical ventilation is counter intuitive. Further, many of the ventilation solutions recommended are either grossly inadequate, or in many cases just simply non compliant. Some councils allow split system air conditioning to be installed in lieu of ventilation. This is simply ignorant – as there is no fresh air supplied from such systems.
